super-adiabatic/superadiabatic lapse rate

super-adiabatic/superadiabatic lapse rate
A lapse rate of air that extends to only a few feet above the ground and is much higher than the dry adiabatic lapse rate. In this situation, the rate at which the heat is absorbed by the air may be greater than the rate at which the heat can be conveyed upward, such as if the lapse rate were dry adiabatic. The dry adiabatic lapse rate is 3°C/5.4°F per thousand feet.
